First Annual Reiter Cup Poker Run Scores a Full House

With over 40 boats and 150 people in attendance on June 13, 2009, the 1st Annual Reiter Cup Poker Run proved to be a huge success. This particular poker run was formed in memory of Pat Reiter, a very dear friend to the Maryland Powerboat Club, who died in a tragic boating accident last October on the Patuxent River. The proceeds for this first annual event went to the Geriatric Oncology Consortium (GOC).

During a normal poker run, the participants of the event travel to five different locations and draw a card upon arrival at each location. The player with the best poker hand wins the money collected for that hand. However, this particular Poker Run involved only four locations instead of five. Beginning at the Tiki Bar, the poker run migrated to Sea Breeze Restaurant & Crab House in Hollywood, Maryland, then to the Rivers Edge Restaurant in Benedict, Maryland, and finally to Vera's White Sands Beach Club & Marina in Lusby. Vera's White Sands involved a 2-card hand.

Each stop also entailed a 50/50 raffle drawing where the members of the Maryland Powerboat Club were able to give away items graciously donated by each of the businesses involved in this year's 1st Annual Reiter Cup Poker Run. In addition, there were two winners from this poker run. Jay Worch and Kelly Davis both pulled in $1,180.0 with Worch winning "Best Captain's Hand" and Davis winning "Best Crew Hand."

The Maryland Powerboat Club was pleased to host a real showdown. All guests of the event played the board well. A thank you is extended to all of the participating businesses and guests for making this event possible. The next poker run will be on Saturday, September 12, 2009! For more information on the 5th Annual Patuxent River Fun Run, please visit www.marylandpowerboatclub.com.
